Rosberg tops rain-hit practice

DATE: 2009/10/17   TIME: 13:28:08

Nico Rosberg of Williams was quickest in final practice session for the Brazilian Grand Prix in a session shortened by rain at Interlagos.

..A torrential downpour put the track under water half an hour before the session, and with the medical helicopter grounded by the conditions race stewards delayed the start of the session by 42 minutes.

That left just 18 minutes to the drivers, and it was Rosberg and Williams team-mate Kazuki Nakajima who topped the timesheets, Rosberg lapping in one minute 23.182 seconds to edge his team mate by 0.650 seconds.

Jenson Button was third quickest after looking solid in the tough conditions, while Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest despite spinning off the track.

Also spinning off was Renault's Romain Grosjean, who came off not once but twice with his second exit - a long slide into a crash barrier on turn one - prompting the stewards to bring out their flags and end the session with just under five minutes to go.
